Welcome to TVCC Distance Learning Online Orientation. Please take a few minutes to go through this orientation to familiarize yourself with ecourses and it's many different features that will assist you in making the most out of your online course.

 

In this Orientation we will be covering the following items that will prove to be very benefical to you.

 

  1. Locating TVCC E-Courses
  2. Configuring your Web Browswer
  3. Logging into E-Courses
  4. Using E-Courses and featured tools

 

Locating E-Courses

  1. Access www.tvcc.edu
  2. Click E-Courses (Yellow Square)

Check Computer Compatibility

  1. Ensure that your browser will work with the TVCC e-Course system
  2. Click "Check Browser"

  1. This browser check will verify your browser is configured so the complete functionality of this application is available to you. For each area checked, mandatory or recommended changes are indicated.
  2. "Other Resources" provides you further troubleshooting guidance should your computer configuration not be compatible with e-Courses

Logging Into E-Courses

 

  1. Access https://ecourses.tvcc.edu
  1. User name: Cardinal ID
    *You MUST have already activated your cardinal ID before logging in to e-courses
  1. Password: Cardinal ID Password
    *You MUST have already activated your cardinal ID before logging in to e-courses

Log In or e-Course Access Problems

If your user name and/or password are not allowing you to log in to e-Courses, FIRST ensure that you are using the correct Cardinal ID (same as your TVCC e-mail access) and Cardinal ID password (same as your TVCC e-mail access). If you are having trouble with your Cardinal ID please contact IT Helpdesk at helpdesk@tvcc.edu or call them at 903.670.2621.

My Blackboard, Opening Page, Read Print Syllabus

The "My Blackboard" page is the first page you see when you log in. IT will contain a list of all of your courses that you are enrolled in. Click on the desired course hyperlink to access that course.

Read Print Syllabus

 

Read/print the syllabus, carefully noting course requirements such as test dates, assignment cutoff dates and any other critical information.

E-Course Calendar & Email

The Calendar feature in WebCT can be used by both instructors and students of the course. Instructors most time will post critical information that is needed by the students while students may post private entries for their personal use. For more information on the Calendar feature please refer to the Help menu for more information.

E-Mail Feature

The E-course E-mail feature allows students to privately communicate with each other or with the instructor within the e-course system. Refer to the e-course Help menu for specific details on sending, receiving, saving, etc. messages.

Discussions & Whiteboard Feature

Discussions are used to interact with your instructor and your classmates. Your instructor may assign you discussions to post. Refer to the e-course help menu for specific details on posting discussions.

The Whiteboard Feature

The Whiteboard feature allows you to draw objects, enter text, or import images that can be viewed in real time by other users. The Chat feature allows you to communicate in real time with other users in the course. Refer to the e-course Help menu for specific details on using the chat or whiteboard features.

Assignments & Assessments, How to take assessments

Assignment - is the tool in the "Course tool" that is used to submit course assignments electronically and review your submissions.

Inbox - lists the assignments that have not been submitted. To submit the assignments, upload your work electronically and click submit.

Submitted - lists details of those assignments.

Graded - lists the grades and/or comments about those assignments already submitted and graded.

Published - This option is solely at the hands of the instructor to either allow you to publish your work or the instructor published your work. This will allow other students or anyone else in that class to view your work.

To take an assessment in e-courses, use the assessments tab and locate the specific assessment you intend to take. Many assessments must be taken in a proctored (Monitored) environment. Please see the TVCC testing website (www.tvcc.edu/testing) for details about location and hours of operation for all of the TVCC testing locations.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism - shall be defined as the appropriating, buying, receiving as a gift, or obtaining by any means another's work and the unacknowledged submission or incorporation of it in one's own written work.

Collusion - shall be defined as the unathorized collaboration with another person in preparing written work for fulfillment of course requirements.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Information

If a student has a disability that qualifies under the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and requires accomodations, he/she should contact Dennis Nolley for information on appropriate policies and procedures.

Disabilities covered by ADA may include learning, psychiatric, physical disabilities, or chronic health disorders. Students can contact Mr. Nolley if they are not certain whether a medical condition/disabilities qualifies.
