GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION:
COURSE DESCRIPTION
An
introduction to Electronic Computer Systems and their use in business. The course covers the history and development
of computers, concepts and terminology, and career opportunities in computer
related fields. This course includes a
series of lab projects using IBM compatible computers.
PREREQUISITE: No course prerequisites, however, this course assumes
computer and Internet literacy. This course requires self-discipline and self-
motivation.

bookstore will ship books upon request by contacting James Quattlebaum at
903-675-6203.
Make sure that if you purchase a used book, it has the Book on CD
with it. You will need the Book on CD to
complete your work!
SUPPLIES AND MATERIALS: You will need a storage media to save your lab work and
practice exams on. The book on CD will
save to a tracking file with a .TK3
extension. This is the file that you
will attach through WEBCT and send to me.
You can use your hard drive at home, a thumb drive(travel drive), a CD (but
make sure the computer you are completing your lab work on can write to a CD),
or a 3 ˝ inch floppy diskette. On your
book on CD you will have to go to TOOLS and then to “Change Tracking Location”
to set where you are going to save your .TK3
file. If you are saving to a CD or
travel drive, choose “Store Data in Custom Location”.
COURSE GOALS
To
introduce the student to concepts applying to computer history, the internet,
web and e-mail basics, computer hardware and software, file management, virus
protection and LAN technology, databases and the concepts of computer programming. Upon successful completion of this course,
the student should have knowledge of the above computer concepts and their
usage in business.
