Description:

Welcome=20 to Web Page Design I Online! = This=20 course provides instruction in the use of the Internet, Internet = services, web=20 page design, and web site development. =20 Emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of = HTML.

This=20 course introduces you to the fundamentals of web page authoring. Students will learn how to use = HTML to=20 create web pages, generate HTML links, add graphics, and create image = maps,=20 tables, frames, and forms. = Advanced techniques include new HTML tags, audio, and=20 video.

Goals:

The=20 primary purpose of Web Page Design 1 is to provide you with a hands-on = approach=20 to the study of web page design. = People want to take this course for a variety of reasons. Employers may require you to = maintain=20 their web site, you may be self-employed and need to design your own web = site,=20 or you may be interested in creating your own self-interest web pages = for=20 personal use. This course = is=20 designed to meet all of those needs. =20

Building=20 on the foundation of your textbook, we'll add lecture notes, class = discussions,=20 Internet research assignments, and weekly quizzes to build your = skills. Of=20 course, you will be designing a web site throughout the semester. The course is fast-paced, so = keep up=20 with the work!

Assignments: =

You=20 will be provided with a Weekly To Do Assignment Check List at the = beginning of=20 each week. This can be found on the blackboard homepage. Pay close = attention to=20 due dates and times! All assignments should be posted no later = than 11:00=20 p.m. on Saturday of the scheduled week.

Discussion=20 Board:

Each=20 student will be expected to log on to the Blackboard discussion board = each week=20 where there will be chapter discussion thread assignments posted = throughout the=20 semester. All entries should be posted by the scheduled = week=92s due=20 date. If you exhibit rude behavior, use profanity, or make any threats = to either=20 students or instructor on any thread in the discussion board, your post = will be=20 removed immediately. You will then not be allowed to participate on the=20 discussion board for the remainder of the semester. Further assignments = that=20 require the discussion board will be composed offline and emailed = directly to=20 the instructor instead.

Exams: =

All=20 exams will be timed. Students who fail to take an exam without = contacting the=20 instructor prior=20 to=20 the exam=20 will receive a zero for that exam and will not be allowed a make-up. = If a=20 test is announced as a proctored exam, the exam will not be administered = online. Students will be required to come to the TVCC Athens = Campus=20 Library Resource Center, testing center, or the testing center on their = home=20 campus to take any proctored exams. This=20 is not a self-paced class. Please refer to the class schedule and = calendars for=20 assignments and due dates. Keep in mind that online learning is active = and=20 self-initiated, and therefore requires self discipline. Don't think that = this=20 class will be easier because it is online; it will probably be harder. =
Here=20 are some tips for successful completion of an online=20 course.

Turning in=20 Assignments and Homework:

Each=20 tutorial and case assignment should be saved to a separate folder on = your=20 computer. Always save a = back-up=20 file!=20
The=20 zip files will be submitted through the Blackboard assignments icon = when due.=20 Check the calendar each week so you will know what is due. Stay = up-to-date;=20 don=92t get behind!=20
The=20 tests must be taken as scheduled on the calendar. The tests are = proctored and=20 timed. You only get one = attempt.=20 NO practice tries! No makeup tests given.=20

Documentation of Course=20 Completion:

You=20 are expected to keep copies of all of your submitted work. If an assignment is lost, it = will be=20 your responsibility to redo and/or resubmit the assignment for = grading.

Once=20 an assignment is graded and returned, you must keep a copy of the graded = assignment in electronic format. Then, if there is a dispute on = the grade,=20 you have verification of grade received.

Online Etiquette: =20

If=20 you haven't participated in online communication very much, you might = want to=20 visit a few web sites that explain "Netiquette,=94 such as http://www.= learnthenet.com/english/html/09netiqt.htm.

=B7 =20 Do=20 not type in ALL CAPS, which is perceived as = shouting

Late Work:

This=20 course is not self-paced; there are published assignment due = dates. Course=20 is organized by week. The week begins on Sunday and ends the following = Saturday=20 at 11:00 pm. All assignments are to be turned in by Saturday at 11:00 = pm. =20 Assignments will remain open for three days after the due date and may = be turned=20 in with a 30% late penalty. Assignments will receive a grade of zero = after the=20 third day (Tuesday at 11:00 pm).

Attendance:

Students=20 enrolled in an online class are expected to regularly interact with = their=20 instructor during the term of the course. Part of each week=92s = assignments=20 will be to answer the Weekly Roll Call. The roll call can be accessed = through a=20 calendar link each week or through the assessment link in the course = menu.=20 Students who do not complete the weekly roll call will be counted absent = for=20 that week. According to TVCC policy, any student who is absent for = three-week s=20 during the term may be subject to administrative withdrawal from the = course by=20 instructor for non attendance. See TVCC Catalog, 2008-2009, pg. = 66.

Withdrawals:

A=20 new THECB Rule has been established to = address a new=20 law enacted by the legislature regarding the number of withdrawals = (W=92s) that a=20 student may have during their academic career (THECB=20 Rules: Chapter 4, Subchapter A, 4.10). The law states that any student = whose=20 first semester in college is Fall 2007 or later may not have more than = six=20 unexcused withdrawals (W=92s) during their academic career. This applies = to a=20 student=92s academic record from all higher education institutions = attended. If a=20 student has six unexcused withdrawals, they will no longer be allowed to = withdraw from a course without receiving a grade in the course, which = will be an=20 =93F=94. To determine if a withdrawal is excused, a student must process = a=20 withdrawal request through the guidance services office. If an = instructor=20 initiates a withdrawal, it is automatically an unexcused withdrawal. = It is=20 the student=92s responsibility to officially withdraw from a=20 course.

Remember: =20 It is YOUR=20 RESPONSIBILITY to=20 withdraw from this class. It must be done through the registrar=92s = office. =20 A phone call to your instructor WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED as a = withdrawal. =20 Proper paperwork required by TVCC must be completed.

Academic = Integrity:

Among=20 the violations of academic integrity are: cheating, plagiarism, = falsification=20 and fabrication, abuse of academic materials, personal misrepresentation = and=20 proxy, bribes, favors, and threats.

Any=20 work that is submitted for grading should belong to you. Your work must = reflect=20 your own personality and understanding; work copied from another is = unacceptable and grounds for a breach of academic integrity. = Specifically, as=20 academic integrity issues relate to this course, if it is discovered = that you=20 are not completing your own assignments, you will fail this=20 course. Cheating will not be tolerated. If you cheat in this class, = you=20 will be either dropped from the course or given a grade of =93F=94 for = the=20 course. This is a zero tolerance rule. The moral of this story is = to study=20 with others, but do your own work!
