Course description:

=20 An opportunity for intensive practice in writing for business, = technical,=20 or occupational fields is provided in this course. In addition to = standard=20 writing procedures, students study specialized techniques such as the = use of=20 layout and design, methods of problem-solving, interview techniques, and = oral=20 presentation.

English 2311 students should be able to demonstrate = the=20 ability:

Student Logins

=D8 All = student=20 logins are their last name followed by their first initial plus the last = four=20 digits of their social security number. =20 Your initial password is the last 4 digits of your social = security=20 number. All instructors and students should change this password to = something=20 unique but easy for you to remember.

Your=20 login ID and password are case sensitive. In other words, if your = Login ID=20 or password contains lowercase and/or capital letters, you must type in = exactly=20 what you see. The log=20 in and password information has changed. The new log in and password = will now be=20 the same. (Example log in: doej1234 =20 Password: Doej1234), except the first letter will be capitalized = on the=20 password. Upon initial login, the student will have to create an 8-digit = password that conforms to the strong password security requirements. If = they=20 don't, they will get these error messages until they=20 comply.

Assignments

Assignments must be submitted by logging-on to the = Blackboard=20 Web site and sending the assignments as attachments or as direct email = to the=20 instructor=92s Blackboard email address. =20 Submit the entire assignment as one document. Questions will = be graded=20 based on detailed, organized thoughts with complete sentences, = appropriate=20 grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation.

Grading=20 Criteria

This course is a sophomore level, so the use of proper = grammar,=20 vocabulary, syntax, and punctuation is required in all written = work. An excessive number of = grammatical=20 errors (fragments, comma splices, fused sentences, misplaced modifiers,=20 misspelling, preposition errors, etc.) seriously distract from effective = communication and will be detrimental to your grade. The biography assignment, each = chapter=20 exercise assignment, and each chapter quiz is worth 10 points each. The following grading scale is = based on=20 total points accumulated in the class and will be used to determine the=20 student=92s grade:

A---405-460

B---365-404

C---328-364

D---295-327

F---Below 294 points

Grade=20 Notification and Feedback

=20 A successful distance learning experience requires a flow of=20 communication between instructor and student throughout the = session. Instructor comments are = considered=20 essential to the learning process. =20 Therefore, each assignment submitted will be reviewed, graded and = returned to the student in a timely manner, usually within three days of = submission. If the = student has not=20 received feedback of submission within three days, it would be best for = the=20 student to contact the instructor. You may submit an assignment = early=20 after you have received feedback and a grade on a previous assignment. = It is=20 imperative that you review my grading for the returned assignment for = any errors=20 as soon as it is returned. Do not wait until the end of the semester; = this will=20 be too late.

Late Assignment=20 Policy

= It is inevitable that unforeseen=20 circumstances arise. An = assignment=20 may be submitted the next day of the due date with a one-letter grade=20 deduction. No assignment = may be=20 submitted after two days from the original due date. Example: An assignment due on October = 5th and=20 submitted on the 6^th by 5:00 pm will receive a one letter = grade=20 deduction. An assignment = due on=20 October 5^th and submitted on the 7^th will receive = a=20 zero.
