Limitations to the = Number of=20 Withdrawals from Courses

A new THECB Rule has been established to address a = new law=20 enacted by the legislature regarding the number of withdrawals = (=93W=92s=94) that a=20 student may have during their academic career (THECB Rules: Chapter 4,=20 Subchapter A, 4.10). The law states that any student whose = first=20 semester in college is Fall 2007 or later may = not have=20 more than six unexcused withdrawals (W=92s) during their academic = career. =20 This applies to a student=92s academic record from all higher education=20 institutions attended. If a student has six unexcused withdrawals, = they=20 will no longer be allowed to withdraw from a course without receiving a = grade in=20 the course (which will be an =93F=94). To determine if a = withdrawal is=20 excused, a student must initiate a withdrawal request through the = guidance=20 services office or, in special circumstances, through the faculty = member. =20 It is the student=92s responsibility to officially withdraw from a = course and to=20 verify that the withdrawal has been posted to their transcript. =

Students will be = allowed to=20 log-on to the TVCC WebCT website after the=20 1^st class day of the semester. Students can get information = regarding=20 the TVCC Blackboard at http://www.tvcc.edu/depts/dist.learning/. Log-on information can be located at = http://www.tvcc.edu/depts/dist.learning/.The= =20 student log-in is the student=92s last name followed by their first = initial of=20 their first name plus the last four digits of their social security = number=20 (kingj8293). The student password is the last four digits of their = social=20 security number. The log-on and password are case sensitive. Once = students have=20 logged into WebCT, they can click on the = course=20 homepage and course icons for additional course information. Students = should=20 have basic computer and word processing skills prior to taking the = course.=20

=D8 All student logins are their last name followed by = their=20 first initial plus the last four digits of their social security = number. =20 Your initial password is the last 4 digits of your social security = number. All=20 instructors and students should change this password to something unique = but=20 easy for you to remember.

Assignments =

There are eight = assignments=20 due every two weeks (see calendar for exact dates). You do not have the = luxury=20 of procrastination in an Internet course: =93The sweat of work is much more pleasant = than the sweat=20 of hurry and worry.=94 Robert Peck (A Day No Pigs Would = Die)=20 Assignments should be submitted as an attachment to an email in the = WebCT platform. The file should be either a = Microsoft=20 Word document or in the ASCII file format. All attachments should = be=20 scanned and verified as virus-free before attaching to your = email.

Assignment=20 Format

Assignments 1-6 will = be=20 answered as discussion and not necessarily in the order asked, but = through=20 thoughts of progression. You are graded on the completeness of = your=20 response. Your assignments will be numbered accordingly: Assignment = 1=3D1.1, 1.2,=20 1.3, etc. Assignment 2=3D2.1, 2.2, 2.3, = etc. =20 Assignments 7 and 8 will relate to the research process. Please double = space,=20 use Times New Roman, and Font 12 in all assignments. When you are = submitting=20 assignments, please use WebCT and email as a = Word=20 Document attachment. Make sure to have your full name on the top = of your=20 submission with the assignment number.

Grading Criteria

The first six = assignments=20 consist of five questions. Each question may receive a maximum of = twenty=20 points for a possible grade of one hundred. The seventh assignment = will be=20 related to the research process and receive a maximum of one hundred=20 points. The eighth assignment will be the research paper that may = receive=20 a maximum grade of three hundred points.

I grade your = responses for=20 each question on a scale of 1-20. If you answer the question = completely,=20 use correct grammatical structure but use only the minimum amount of=20 information, you will get 15 to 17 points. If you add plenty of = details to=20 support a detailed discussion, you will receive 18 to 19 points. = If you do=20 all of this and give examples not mentioned in the text, you will = receive 20=20 points for your response. REMEMBER: answer as if you were teaching = someone who=20 knew nothing about the characters, plot, theme or issues involved in the = selection. All standards for grammar, mechanics, spelling, etc. = should be=20 met.

Grade Notification and Feedback

A successful = distance learning=20 experience requires a flow of communication between instructor and = student=20 throughout the session. Instructor comments are considered = essential to=20 the learning process. Therefore, each assignment submitted will be = reviewed, graded and returned to the student in a timely manner, usually = within=20 three days of submission. If the student has not received feedback = of=20 submission within three days, it would be best for the student to = contact the=20 instructor. You may submit another assignment after you have = received=20 feedback and a grade on a previous assignment.

Late Assignment Policy

It is inevitable = that=20 unforeseen circumstances arise. An assignment may be submitted the = next=20 day of the due date with a one-letter grade deduction. No = assignment may=20 be submitted after two days from the original due date. = Example: An=20 assignment due on September 5th and submitted on the 6^th by = 5:00 pm=20 will receive a one letter grade deduction. An assignment due on = September=20 5^th and submitted on the 7^th will receive a = zero.
