Course Description:

The course is a study of t= he duties and functions of the administrative office manager (AOM). It includes the study of leadership styles, the problem-solving process, managing human resources, training and promotion, office salary administration, labor-management relations, and managing administrative services.

Instructional Methods:

This course is offered as an integrated program of independent distan= ce education study. The textbook, Administrative Office Management (Odg= ers), contains end of chapter activities that include chapter summaries, key term= s, questions, case studies, and internet activities. As an independent distance education course of study, the student should read the textbook, define the terms, and complete the end-of-chapter questions/cases. Course exams will come from the te= xt.

E= xams: (100 points each)

The course will have five exams; one exam for each part of the textbook. Each exam will cons= ist of 25 true/false and 25 multiple choice questions. VCT students should contact their VCT Counselor or college testing center to make arrangements to take their exams. TVCC students will take their exams at the testing cente= r or Learning Resource Center on the Athens, Palestine, or Terrell Campus. Testing hours for the = TVCC testing centers or LRC’s will be posted on the course homepage. Make arrangements with your test= ing center IN ADVANCE for your testing dates and times!!

P= roject 1: Prepare and submit a Job Analysis/Description paper of your present/previous job according to textbook format.

P= roject 2: Prepare (use 8.5”X11” printer/Xerox paper) an Office Space Management

F= loor Plan of your present/previous workplace environment; then design and draw= a

new Office Space Management Floor Plan to show improvement in = the flow of work

within the environment. &= nbsp;

P= roject 3: Prepare an <= b>Office Automation Paper describing the current office automation in your present/past job; then describe how it could be improved to increase= job productivity.

C= ourse Grade Computation:

The course grade will be computed as follows:

Five= exams – total points: 500

Three projects – = total points: 300

&= nbsp;

Total points for course: 800 points

Minimum points for:

&= nbsp; A – 720 points

&= nbsp; B – 640 points

&= nbsp; C – 560 points

&= nbsp; D – 480 points

&= nbsp; F – 479 points or below

To receive full credit, all exams and projects must be completed and submitted on time (consult the assignment calendar on the course web site).= Late assignments will not be =

accepted.

C= ourse Access using Blackboard:

All course communication will take place via Blackboard e-mail. Stude= nts will be allowed to log-on to the TVCC Blackboard website after the 1^st= class day of the semester. Students can get information regarding the TVCC Blackboard at http://www.tvcc.edu/= webct. The student log in and password are now the same (Example log in: doej12= 34 Password: Doej1234), except the first letter of the password will be capitalized. Upon initial log= in, the student will have to create an 8-digit password that conforms to the st= rong password security requirements.

&= nbsp; 1. Please enter a password with at least 8 characters.

&= nbsp; 2. To meet the strong password requirement, it must include 3 of the following types of characters: Uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. For example: Pa55w*rd.
