Course Description:

Analysis of art elements and principles as app= lied to various forms of visual expression; study of historical examples of architecture, painting, sculpture, and minor arts directed toward an intelligent appreciation of masterpieces. (TVCC Catalog)<= /p>

It is a college accredited 3-semester-hour course.

N= o prerequisites are required; however, it is recommended that your reading and writing scor= es are above minimum. It is advised that you have some computer experience suc= h as word processing and web research skills.

Ø To look at art with understanding and sensitivity

Ø To distinguish periods, movements, and styles of art

Discussion Board:

Each student will be expected to log on to the Blackboard discussion board each week where there will be chapter discussion thread assignments posted.   You will be required to read/discuss= various topics. All entries should be posted by the scheduled week’s due date.

Exams:

All exams will be timed. Students who fail to t= ake an exam without contacting the instructor prior to the exam will rec= eive a zero for that exam and will not be allowed a make-up. If a test is announced as a proctored exam, = the exam will not be administered online. Students will be required to co= me to the TVCC Athens Campus Library Resource Center, testing cen= ter, or the testing center on their home campus to take any proctored exams. VCT students will be required to go to the testing center on their host campus = to take the proctored exams.

Attendance= :

Students enrolled in an online class are expect= ed to regularly interact with their instructor during the term of the course.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> Part of each week’s assignme= nts will be to answer the Weekly Roll Call. The roll call can be accessed throu= gh a calendar link each week or through the assessment link in the course menu. Students who do not complete the weekly roll call will be counted absent for that week. According to TVCC policy, any student who is absent for three we= eks during the term may be subject to administrative withdrawal from the course= by the instructor for non attendance. See TVCC Catalog, 2008-2009, pg. 66.

Withdrawal= s:

A new THECB Rule has been established to addres= s a new law enacted by the legislature regarding the number of withdrawals (W’s) that a student may have during their academic career (THECB Rul= es: Chapter 4, Subchapter A, 4.10). The law states that any student whose first semester in college is Fall 2007 or later may not have more than six unexcu= sed withdrawals (W’s) during their academic career. This applies to a student’s academic record from all higher education institutions attended. If a student has six unexcused withdrawals,

they will no longer be allowed to withdraw from= a course without receiving a grade in the course, which will be an “F”. To determine if a withdrawal is excused, a student must process a withdrawal request through the guidance services office. If an instructor initiates a withdrawal, it is automatically an unexcused withdra= wal. It is the student’s responsibility to officially withdraw from a cour= se.

Online Lea= rning:

This is not a self-paced class. Please refer to= the class schedule and calendars for assignments and due dates. Keep in mind th= at online learning is active and self-initiated, and therefore requires self discipline. Don't think that this class will be easier because it is online= ; it will probably be harder.
Here are some tips for successful completion of an online course.

Ø Prepare in advance

Ø Set a specific time = of day for doing the work

Ø Prepare a physical s= etting (close the door, eliminate interruptions, etc.)

Ø Ask lots of question= s in the discussion board if you don't understand something
