HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO RESULTS

Trinity Valley Community College was very successful while recently participating in the 2008 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The TVCC Beef Cattle Show Team was involved in the Open Charolais Cattle division of the show on March 9, 2008. Our students did extremely well even though one had to return home the first night due to a minor injury and two others contracted a stomach virus while we were there. The students have to work extremely hard for three days to win the good herdsman award, but the last eight years we have had some great show teams that go all out to win it. The competitors have to keep the area perfectly clean and all of the cattle perfectly groomed at all times as well as have a nice looking display and demonstrate courtesy to all who come by. In fact, to win someone also has to be standing up working on something at all times because you never know when the judges will be judging as they check on everyone several times each day. The team competes against all of the exhibitors in the open Charolais show. Our two-year old bred heifer won the Senior Female Division. This is the heifer that won 2^nd at the Ft. Worth Stock Show. I will list each animal and the TVCC student who showed the animal below.

FT. WORTH STOCK SHOW RESULTS

Trinity Valley Community College was successful while recently participating in the 2008 Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show (Ft. Worth Stock Show) at Fort Worth Texas. The TVCC Beef Cattle Show Team was involved in the Open Charolais Cattle division of the show on January 28, 2008. The Ft. Worth show is classified as a “Class A Roll of Excellence Show” by the American International Charolais Association. Class A shows generate more AICA points for the winners as well as more prize money. This classification encouraged many breeders from other states to come to Ft. Worth to enter the Charolais show this year. The competition is always very tough to beat. I personally appreciate the complements from other breeders, high school Ag teachers, and others on how well this year’s show team had prepared the cattle for show and how hard each of them were working more than winning more division championships. The TVCC Show Team will be traveling to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to compete in their final show of the season on Sunday, March 9^th.
