Career Skills Training & Financial Aid Opportunities

Training grants are available to qualified parents of minor children.  The training is to prepare the parents for jobs.  The grant funds are used to provide training for adults who qualify under the workforce board guidelines.  Workers with minor children, who may have recently lost their job, or those currently receiving TANF assistance or who may be at risk of receiving TANF assistance may qualify.

The training offered to these parents has two parts – 1) career skills training that covers “soft skills” in resume writing, interviewing skills, communication skills, working in a team setting and customer service.  2) Students who complete the career skills training are eligible for scholarships to assist with tuitions.   These can be used for job training in classes such as Certified Nurse Aide, Basic Phlebotomy, Computer Numerical Controls, Machining technology, Welding and other workforce training classes offered by the Continuing Education department.  Students work with TVCC staff to plan career goals and to select from a variety of workforce classes.
