I teach Developmental Reading, English Composition 1301, HECO 1322 (Nutrition and Diet Therapy, and BIOL 1322 (Nutrition and Diet Therapy) on the Athens campus and through distance learning.
My undergraduate degree, in home economics, is from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma. My graduate degree, also in home economics, is from Texas A&M University at Commerce. I have a reading specialist certificate, 21 graduated hours of reading and 36 graduate hours of English from the University of Texas at Tyler.
As a teacher, I think it is important to help the students and intervene when I can. However, I believe in reality therapy. We are responsible for our actions, and actions have consequences.
My personal philosophy is that all teachers should take a course every few years in an area that they have little knowledge or experience. This experience shows teachers the kind of struggles many students have with their classes. I take art and computer science classes. I really struggle. I see how other students in these classes struggle. I think it makes me a better teacher.
