Surgical Technology Program

IMPORTANT! If you do not already have your hepatitis B vaccinations - get started now. The usual timing of vaccinations is the first shot, a 2nd in a month and a 3rd at 6 months after the 1st.  If time becomes an issue, the CDC recommends an accelerated schedule of the first shot, the 2nd in 4 weeks and the 3rd at 4 months after the 1st.   If you are accepted into the SGT program, the first two Hep B vaccinations must be completed by July 1, 2010.   Due to the cost we recommend going to Outreach Clinics or the Public Health Departments.

Applications are currently being accepted for Fall 2010 until January 31.  Click on the Surgical Technology program brochure to see the current procedure and download the application during the application period.

The Surgical Technology program prepares a person to provide services in the surgical suite under the supervision of the surgical supervisor. A surgical technologist, as part of the surgical team, aids in providing for the safety, sterility and efficiency necessary for good patient care in the surgical suite. Also, the technologist prepares materials (instruments, sutures, etc.) for use at the operating room table and assists in the use of these materials in a variety of operative procedures. Graduates of the 41 credit hour program receive a certificate of completion in surgical technology and graduates of the 64 credit hour program receive an associate in applied science degree.  Graduates of both programs are eligible to take the National Certifying Examination for Surgical Technologists to qualify as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). The TVCC Surgical Technology Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

There is a selections process for both of these programs.  For more information review the appropriate information in the Surgical Technology Program brochure. If you have any questions, e-mail us at SGT@tvcc.edu.

Application deadline is January 31st. Do not delay submitting application and transcripts!

LATE APPLICATIONS

In the spring, if, and only if, additional applicants are needed to fill the class, late applications will be accepted for the SGT program beginning April 9th. Notification of the acceptance of late applications and the length of the application period will be posted on this web site if late applications will be accepted. The same criteria used during regular selections will be used for selection of qualified applications from the available pool. If additional applicants are still needed after the first late application period, a second late application period will begin on July 9th.
