Go to the main TVCC
web site at
www.tvcc.edu and click on ecourses
in the top row. This will take you to the log in
screen. Before logging in, you will need to do a browser
check, turn off pop-up blockers and accept the Java security
certificate. If you are having trouble, you can go to
http://www.tvcc.edu/webct/ and you
may be able to get your questions answered under the student
help section. This will help you make sure that you have all
of the necessary software to let the programs run. You will
need to activate your cardinal id first. Log in using your
cardinal id and the password you selected. (VCT students
will have a different log-in). If you are having
trouble logging on, be sure to e-mail the instructor, call the HSC at (972)
932-4309 or call the distance learning department in Athens
at (903) 675-6324 or contact the TVCC Help Desk. It may be something that can easily be
fixed. Don't get frustrated.
Then you will click on
the medical terminology course. You will be asked about an
agreement with Mosby and once you agree you will be asked for
the access code (on inside cover of blue booklet called “Online
Learning Resource for…” Once you get to the course, there will
be an icon called Related Materials that includes a syllabus and
calendar. There is another icon called Course Documents that
included modules that correspond to the chapters in your
workbook. Be sure to work the exercises in each module. There
are self-mastery quizzes and exams at the end of each module.
Take these to see how you are doing and if you are ready for the
tests that count. These grades are not included in your course
grade. You do not have to do any of the discussion assignments
such as mnemonics or web sites. If you are having trouble with
your access code, you can call WebCT support at 1-877-855-3238.
When you have completed chapters 1 and 3, you can take the sample test. Click on the Medical Terminology Examinations icon, select the sample test and enter the password Reid. For all of the 7 tests that count you will need to make arrangements with your proctor.
Make sure you have your cardinal id, password and access codes with you when you go to test. And take your student ID with you.
There is a section on communication where you can e-mail, or
have a discussion board.
If you are going to TVCC you can make arrangements to test on any campus. On the Terrell campus, the library staff will be the proctors. At the HSC, the HSC staff will be the proctors. On the Athens campus, the Testing Center employees are the proctors. If the Testing Center is closed, go to the LRC. On the Palestine campus, the library staff will be the proctors. If you are going to another college, contact the VCT representative to make arrangements for a testing proctor and send their e-mail address to me at reid@tvcc.edu. This is a self-paced course and it is very easy to get behind.
You are required to take two tests before drop date. Do not procrastinate! E-mail me if you have any problems. Good luck this semester.
