IMPORTANT! If you are interested in a health occupations program and don't already have your hepatitis B vaccinations - get started now. The usual timing of vaccinations is the first shot, a 2nd in a month and a 3rd at 6 months after the 1st. If time becomes an issue, the CDC recommends an accelerated schedule of the first shot, the 2nd in 4 weeks and the 3rd at 4 months after the 1st. You must have all three vaccinations before clinical starts.
The student
should bring documentation of two vaccines (at least a month apart),
but must have at least one, or
a blood test confirming immunity to Hepatitis B to regular
registration. It is recommended that you have the first Hep B vaccination before
June 1st and the second by July 1st for the fall
classes and the first by November 1st and the second by December 1st for the
spring classes. Due to the cost we recommend going to Outreach Clinics or the Public Health Departments.

Trinity Valley Community College's Emergency Medical Services Program consists of two options. One is a 64 credit hour curriculum leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Services. This curriculum consists of 35
credit hours of emergency medical services courses and
29 hours of general education courses. The second option is a 35 credit hour certificate program including only the emergency medical services courses, leading to a Certificate of Completion in Emergency Medical Services. There are two exit points in both curricula at which times students who meet the requirements will be recommended to the Texas Department of State Health Services to take the appropriate examinations, the EMT-B (Basic level), and the EMT-P (Paramedic level). Upon entry into the field, graduates of both options should be able to provide safe, competent care for patients in both field and hospital settings. |
The EMT-Basic courses are offered on the Palestine Campus, the Athens Campus, the Health Science Center in Kaufman and sometimes in Canton. The advanced emergency medical services courses are available on the Palestine Campus and the Health Science Center in Kaufman.
Students may register for the emergency medical services courses during regular registration on a first-come, first-served basis according to the registration schedule.
