Welcome to Medical Terminology Self-Paced Course

  • Be sure to read the medical terminology syllabus.

  • Purchase the required workbook at the Athens or HSC bookstore.

  • Work Chapters 1 & 3 in the book and take the sample test before the 12th class day.  See instructions in syllabus for testing.

  • Carefully read and follow the instructions in the Medical Terminology syllabus for the appropriate campus and semester.

  • This is a self-paced course. You should be prepared to spend 3 hours a week (8 in the summer) in activities on campus for the course, the same as required for a scheduled semester credit hour course and additional study time at home.  Additional time is required for summer or TVCC Choices semesters. If this is the first time you have taken a self-paced course, look up your first term - "Procrastination".   Do not let yourself get behind!! If you have not taken at least two tests by the drop date you will be dropped.

  • The medical terminology videos may be watched and the computers used any time the library is open.  Be sure the check with the Athens or HSC LRC for the current hours of operation.

  • The HSC LRC is open Mondays - Fridays from 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The LRC in Athens is open Mondays - Thursdays 7:45 a.m. - 8:45 p.m. and on Fridays from 7:45 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.  The Athens LRC may have some weekend hours. Check the website for hours.

  • Testing may be done in Kaufman or Terrell any time the LRC is open. Testing may be done in Athens at the Testing center from 8 - 12 and 1 - 4:30. No tests may begin after 11:30 or 4. The Testing Center is closed on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays and Fridays of each month for GED testing. If the Testing Center is closed, go to the LRC for testing.

  • If you have any questions please feel free to call Dean Reid at the Health Science Center at (972) 932-4309 or e-mail her at MedTerm@tvcc.edu.  Good luck this semester.
