Provost Helen Reid

Helen Reid is Health Science Center Provost and is responsible for its management and day to day operations. She provides leadership for the health occupations division on all campuses.  She supervises the formulation and implementation of policies and standards within the division. She is also responsible for making sure the health science programs are in compliance with the rules and regulations mandated by various state and educational agencies. She serves on several state and national boards and does much to advance the Associate Degree of Nursing and the TVCC health occupation programs.
         

Provost Reid holds a Bachelor of Art's degree in Biology from UT-Austin, a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from UT-Arlington, a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in Dallas, and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of North Texas in Denton.   

 

Jeffrey Ballom

Jeffrey Ballom is the counselor at the Health Science Center.  He provides educational and personal counseling for health sciences students, and general academic advising.  He holds an Associate in Arts degree from Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City Missouri, a Bachelor of Science degree in Guidance and Counseling from Texas A&M University – Commerce, and a Master of Science degree in Counseling and Guidance from Texas A&M University – Commerce.

Mr. Ballom is a National Certified Counselor, a member of the National Career Development Association, and Texas Counselor’s Association, and has a license in Real Estate.

 

 

Ray Huttel

Ray Hargrove-Huttel is the Sophomore Team Leader. She supervises and coordinates the graduating sophomores in the ADN program. She is the Kaufman Campus Site Coordinator of the ADN to BSN program from UT-Arlington. She is also the editor of Lippincott's Review Series Medical-Surgical Nursing  textbook.
         

Dr. Huttel holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master's of Science in Nursing, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in Denton. 

 

Judy Callicoatt

Judy Callicoatt is a member of the ADN Sophomore Team.  She is a sophomore clinical instructor.  

Ms. Callicoatt holds an Associate Degree of Applied Science from El Centro Community College in Dallas, A Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in Denton. She is licensed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and works part time in ICU at Doctor's Hospital in Dallas. 

 

Roger Bell

 

 

 

Roger Bell is a member of the Freshmen Team. He is a lecturer and freshman skills/clinical instructor.

 

Mr. Bell holds an Associate in Applied Science degree in instrumentation technology from TSTC in Waco, a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Baylor University in Waco, TX.  and a Master of Science in nursing from Regis University in Denver, CO. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kathryn Colgrove

Kathryn Colgrove is a member of the sophomore team. She holds an Associate in Applied Science Degree from El Centro College in Dallas, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in Denton. She is also licensed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and an Oncology Certified Nurse. She is member of the American Cancer Society Board of Nurse Consultants in Dallas.

Ms. Colgrove has published two nursing review books and currently has a third one coming out this year.

 

Deborah Jones

 

Deborah Jones is a member of the Freshmen Team.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas A&M Corpus Christi and  Master of Science in Nursing and Masters in Business Administration/Health Care Management from the University of Phoenix. She works part-time as a legal nurse consultant.    

 

 

 

Leslie Prater

Leslie Prater is a member of the sophomore team. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth and a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in Denton. She is licensed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in adult Medical Surgical Nursing.  She is a member of the Beta chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, is a Certified Diabetes Educator and a member of the American Association of Diabetes Educators.

 

Katherine Smith

Katherine Smith is a member of the freshman team. She holds an Associate degree in nursing from the College of DuPage, a  Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Illinois Benedictine College and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Illinois in Chicago.  

 

Melinda Parish

 

Melinda Parish is the freshman team leader.  She coordinates the lecture, skills lab and clinical of the freshmen ADN students. 

Ms. Parish has an Associate of Applied Science degree in nursing from Trinity Valley Community College, and Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington.

 

 

Mary Beth Beatty

Mary Beth Beatty is a member of the sophomore team.  She is sophomore clinical instructor.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Missouri at Columbia and a Master of Science in Nursing from UT-Arlington. She is a Medical-Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Ms. Walker  and works part-time in hospital based adult care environments. 

 

Lisa Blackwelder

 

Lisa Blackwelder is a member of both the Freshman (Level II) and Sophomore (Level III) teams.  She received her ADN from Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh NY.  She received her BSN and MSN from UT Tyler.  She received her Certification as a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner from UTSWMC at Dallas.  She is currently completing a Post-Master’s Certificate as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Texas Tech.  She also works PRN at Presby Kaufman in the ED.

She is an avid, but still amateur, skydiver.  She has two children (17 male & 18 ¾ female).  She is also a newlywed (2.5 years).  Her beloved nickname is “Dragon-lady.”

 

 

Gerry Thomas-Cook

Gerry Thomas-Cook is Coordinator of the Skills Lab. She has supervision of the skills training and development of all students in all programs at the Health Science Center.


Ms. Cook holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration and a Master of Business Administration from Texas    A & M Commerce.  She is certified CPR Instructor Trainer for American Heart Association.  

 

Jason Smith

Jason Smith is Coordinator of the LVN program at the Health Science Center.  He works with Provost Reid  in planning, implementing, and supervising this program.   He is the primary lecturer and clinical instructor.

Mr. Smith holds a certificate in Vocational Nursing from TVCC and an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing, also from TVCC.
 

 

Nancy Couch

           

Nancy Couch is the coordinator and instructor for lecture, skills, and clinical for the Surgical Technology Program.  She holds an Associate Degree in Nursing from Henderson County Junior College (TVCC), Surgical Technology Certification from Henderson County Junior College (TVCC), Bachelors in Science and Nursing from Dallas Baptist University and is currently taking distance education course with California College of Health Sciences for a Masters Degree in Nursing.  She holds a national certification CNOR (Certified nurse of the operating room) since 1988.

Ms. Couch received the Teaching in Excellence Award 1995-96.  She is the Health Science Center campus representative for Faculty Association for TVCC.   

 

 

Karen Gunder

Karen Gunder serves as clinical instructor for the freshmen team in the Spring semester and as a clinical instructor for the sophomore team in the Fall semester.  Karen also functions as the Simulation Lab Coordinator, who is responsible for the development and coordination of teaching/learning methods using high fidelity manikins.

Mrs. Gunder has an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing from Paris Junior College.  She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Karen Harris

 

Karen Harris the coordinator and instructor for the Patient Care Technology program.  She holds an Associate in Applied Science degree in nursing from Trinity Valley Community College, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.
