A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills, and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional.
As outlined in the
learning plan, apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials,
tools, equipment, procedures, regulations, laws, and interactions within and
among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated
with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and
ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and
appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of
the occupation and the business/industry.
This course builds on the competencies learned in RNSG 2660 and 2161 – Clinical III A & B.
Specific learning objectives guide the student’s integrated clinical experiences, focussing on application of concepts and skills learned in RNSG 2414 Clinical rotations through a variety of community-based health agencies, including a psychiatric facility and home health care, give the student an opportunity to apply integrated client care management. A preceptorship at the end of the course allows the student to integrate technical skills, nursing concepts, and basic workplace competencies learned throughout the program in the integrated care management of clients in an assigned setting. Both RNSG 2414 and 2562 must be passed concurrently in order for the student to graduate from the nursing program.
By the end of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Determine the health status and health needs of clients and families based upon interpretation of health data in collaboration with clients, families, and other health care professionals.
2. Formulate goals and plan of care for clients and families based on nursing diagnoses in collaboration with clients, families, and other health care professionals.
3. Implement the plan of care within legal and ethical parameters in collaboration with clients, families, and other members of health care professions to assist clients and their families meet health care needs.
4. Develop and implement a teaching plan for the college health fair.
5. Evaluate client and family responses to therapeutic interventions.
6. Utilize current technology and literature and/or interpreted research findings to enhance client care and the profession of nursing.
7. Coordinate human and material resources for the provision of care for clients and their families.
8. Collaborate with clients, families, co-workers, and other health care professionals to provide care.
9. Refer clients and their families to appropriate sources of assistance when necessary to meet health needs.
10. Function within the organizational framework of various structured health care settings in planning and providing care for clients and their families.
11. Assume accountability and responsibility for the quality of nursing care provided to clients and families.
12. Act as an advocate to promote the provision of quality health care for clients and their families.
13. Participate in activities that promote the development and practice of nursing.
The student will be required to satisfactorily:
1. Complete a psychiatric case study and present in post-conference.
2. Complete client interviews (3) and analyses.
3. Complete objectives for each assigned community site.
4. Complete a Non-Acute Care Research Paper.
5. Complete an ethical dilemma assignment.
6. Complete a group cultural assessment project.
7. Participate in a group health fair project.
The student will be required to satisfactorily demonstrate clinical competency according to the Level IV criteria on the Final Clinical Evaluation in Community and Non-acute Care Setting, the Terrell State Hospital Weekly Clinical Evaluations, and the Role Transition Evaluation tool.
