The mission of the Cardinal Athletic Training Program is to provide an active learning environment for students to learn, acquire and master the skills required of students in Entry-Level Athletic Training Education Programs.

This program will prepare the athletic training student for an easy transition to a CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Program at a four year university.

The TVCC Athletic Training Program is the perfect place to get the skills you need. Our goal is to provide you with a practical education in sports medicine.

As an athletic training student, you will gain vital skills in the latest sports medicine techniques, ethics and responsibilities, and communication with other health care providers.

Our staff athletic trainers will help ensure that every student is on the right track and meeting all deadlines and requirements of the program.

Practical experience for future trainers

Students, while working directly under a certified trainer, will gain
experience working with athletes and other physically
active individuals in different clinical settings.

Students will document approximately 20 hours per week working under the direct supervision of a certified athletic trainer.

On-campus field experiences will allow the student to work
with highly competitive basketball, football and cheerleading teams. Also, beginning with the fall of 2008, students will also be working with the college's brand new softball team.
While working with these teams, students will be required to attend practices, games or competitions, and travel with the teams.  Students have the opportunity to become an active part of the team.

Possible off campus field experiences may include local high schools and observations in physical therapy and sports medicine clinics.
Competitive transfer options

All of our classes are custom designed ATEP programs which meet requirements for university graduation and credentialing as an athletic trainer.

Not only do students in the TVCC Athletic Training program learn to be competitive in university transfer programs, TVCC faculty and staff also assist each student in the admissions process for CAATE accredited ATEP programs at four year universities.
