joined the Cardinal Football family in January of
2010 as Offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach. His leadership of the 2010
and 2011 offenses have been integral in the

Bank Bowl, the 2010 SWJCFC Regional Playoffs
and the 2010 SWJCFC Championship
game.
Under Poteete's guidance in 2011, quarterback Tucker Carter was named 1st
Team All-Conference, the SWJCFC Offensive MVP and Honorable
Mention NJCAA All-American. Carter ranked 7th in the NJCAA in passing
yards, 8th in total offense, 5th in passing TD's and was named the NJCAA
National Player of the Week for his performance in the Cardinals victory
ove Navarro. The offense finished at or near the top of the conference in
total offense, passing offense and rushing offense, as well as positioned 6
players on the All-SWJCFC 1st or 2nd teams.
In 2010 the offense was instrumental in the run to the championship. The Cardinal offense finished
1st in the SWJCFC and 5th in the nation in total yards. They also led the
SWJCFC in rushing offense, finishing 6th in the NJCAA, and finished 2nd in the

Poteete comes to Athens from Louisiana College, where he coached for six seasons
and held titles of offensive coordinator (2007-2009), passing game coordinator (2006),
special teams coordinator (2006) and quarterbacks
(2006-2009) coach. Statisically, Poteete’s
offenses at LC had been among the best in both the
NCAA and ASC. In 2009, the Wildcat’s offense
finished top 3 in the ASC and top 30 in the NCAA in:
scoring offense, total offense, passing offense,
passing efficiency and turnover margin. He had also
earned the reputation as one of the school’s top
recruiters during his tenure.
The former quarterback enjoyed a stellar career at Tulsa Union HS, Northeastern
Oklahoma A&M, Southern Illinois University, and professionally in the Arena
Football League. An All-State selection in high school,
Poteete signed with NEO and led the Golden Norsemen
to the 1998 SWJCFC
and Red River Bowl
Championships en route to being named All-Conference. After signing with
Southern Illinois University, he was named the 1999
Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the
Year and the 2000 All-Conference Team.
Poteete spent four seasons in professional football
with both Shreveport and Columbus and still holds
league records for passing, rushing and touchdowns.
Sherard is
married to the former Jamie Campbell and they
