Greetings from The Valley!
The purpose of this coach’s corner is to provide you with information on the Lady Cards basketball program. I will do my best over the course of the season to provide weekly notes so that you can keep up with our young ladies, our season, and what is happening in our program.
We have been in school for almost six weeks now and the Lady Cards are beginning to make the adjustment to college life by learning how to take care of themselves, managing their time, studying for classes, and living on their own for the first time. Our players have gotten off to a great start and are already starting to grow and mature as young women. We have players from six different states in the U.S. and from Europe, so they are learning to adjust to each other personally and on the floor.
We finished our conditioning workouts in September and really made improvements in some of our individual workouts. We started official practice on Oct. 1 and our kids have been working hard. Most have never been pushed this hard mentally and physically, but each of them is doing their best to push forward and help us in our quest for our sixth National Championship!
October is a busy month for us as we begin preparing for the 2007-08 season. We have scrimmages on Oct. 13 in Tyler and the JUCO Jamboree in Dallas on Oct. 20. Then on Oct. 30 the Lady Cards will host the Houston Jaguars in an exhibition game here at the Valley. We have only 18 more practices to prepare for our season opener.
The excitement is high here at The Valley. We think we have the talent and are beginning to show signs of the work ethic that could lead us to a very special season. I hope you are able to come watch us at some point during the season. I think you will be impressed with the effort and the talent the Lady Cards put on the floor.
I will be back next week to check in on our first scrimmage and some surprises we have in store.
