J Pond - Offensive Line / Director of
Strength & Conditioning
J Pond has finished his
second
year with the Cardinals, joining the program in
January of 2009 as offensive line coach, and taking over the reigns of the teams
strength and conditioning in the spring of 2010.
Under his tutelage in the fall of 2010, the
Cardinal offensive line helped pave the way for
one of the most explosive offenses in the
nation, finishing 1st in the SWJCFC and 5th in the NJCAA in total
yards, as well as leading the conference and finishing 6th in the NJCAA in rushing
offense. In 2010, J coached
five members of the All-SWJCFC team,
including 2nd Team selections Colton Collins and Wayne Harris. His boys up front
also helped pave the way for
1st Team
All-American and SWJCFC Player
Of The Year running back Josh
Johnson. In only two seasons Coach Pond has now worked with 9
all-conference performers.
Coach Pond came to Athens after spending the previous
two seasons at Sul Ross State University. While with the Lobos, Coach Pond coached the
offensive line and held the titles of recruiting
coordinator and director of strength and
conditioning. In his two seasons in Alpine,
TX, the Lobos offensive line led the way for one
of the American Southwest Conference's most
potent rushing attacks.
An alumnus of The
Fighting Texas A&M Aggies and 2-time football letterman, J earned a Bachelor
of Science in
Sports Management in 2005. J also holds a Masters
of Physical Education from SRSU (2007).
While in College Station,
Pond helped the Aggies reach the 2004 SBC Cotton Bowl and the 2006 Pacific Life Holiday Bowl. He still holds a number of lifting titles
at A&M and was selected to participate in the
Night of Champions where he broke the school
record in the power clean with a weight of 470
lbs.
