Trinity Valley Community College sophomore Justus Whitcher represented the school well at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo., June 15-21.

Whitcher qualified in Steer Wrestling and finished 17th overall in the nation. TVCC Rodeo coach Brent Bratton said it was an impressive showing at the CNFR, which pits competitors from two- and four-year schools against each other on a level playing field.

“It was a great rodeo and I know he enjoyed it. It was an honor for him to be there and participate,” TVCC Rodeo coach Brent Bratton said. “To have Justus earn a spot among such a tough field and end up No. 17 in the nation tells a lot about his work ethic and competition level. We are extremely proud of Justus and it could not have happened to a better individual. He is a great representative of what TVCC and college rodeo is all about.”

Bratton said Whitcher leaves not only a legacy of strong performances at TVCC, but also of maintaining a respectable GPA in the classroom in addition to putting in the work it takes to be successful in the arena – such as taking the time to practice and maintain his animals.

The culture around TVCC assists student-athletes in such endeavors.

“Such tremendous support from the college and community allows these competitors to get ahead in both their education and the sport that is their passion,” Bratton said.
