VPN is an acronym for V irtual P rivate N etwork. A VPN provides an encrypted and secure connection "tunnel" path from a user's machine to its destination through the public Internet. Once the connection is established, you will be connected to the TVCC network through an encrypted tunnel. Passwords and other sensitive information will be securely transmitted over the Internet and into the TVCC network.

The VPN client program allows your personal home computer to access Trinity Valley Community College 's resources through the Internet. This has several benefits including connecting to the iSeries (AS400), accessing your shared drive (H: drive) or working on your office computer from home as though you were in your office.

This technology can also be used in most hotel rooms while you are attending a conference. You can use your laptop to establish a VPN from your hotel to the TVCC network via the public Internet.
