What file attachment extensions are blocked by IT Services?

Answer:

IT Services blocks several file extensions for security reasons. Email containing certain files could be harmful to your computer or the college network. To prevent an individual from transmitting an email containing a malicous program we block the following file extensions.

ad ade adp asp bas bat chm cmd
com cpl crt eml exe hlp hta inf
ins isp js jse lnk mdb mde msc
msi msp mst pif pod reg scr sct
shb vb vbe vbs vsd vss vst wsw
wsf wsh zip

Does this mean that I cannot send a file with the zip extension?

No. You can send a zipped file. You need to simply rename the extension to zit. For example if you have a file called documents.zip rename the file extension so the file is documents.zit. This will allow the email with the file to be delivered. Just remember to have the receipiant to rename the file back to documents.zip before he/she unzips it.
