Trinity Valley is phasing out the use of SSNs as the primary identifier for employee and student records. The TVIN is the new primary identification number.

Over the last few years identity theft has become one of the most significant white collar crimes, costing individuals and companies millions of dollars. In an effort to prevent the theft of student and employee social security numbers, Trinity Valley is phasing out the use of SSNs as the primary identifier for employee and student records. The Trinity Valley Identification Number (or TVIN for short) is the new primary identification number that will be used in lieu of your Social Security Number (SSN) in the future. Beginning Fall 2009 you will begin to see the TVIN phased in over the course of the next 18 months. To ease this transition, IT Services will be changing the computer application screens so that you can enter either the TVIN or SSN to access a record. Below is a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the migration to the TVIN from the SSNs.

1. What is my TVIN?
Your TVIN is an acronym for Trinity Valley Identification Number. It is a unique number assigned to every Employee and Student at TVCC.

2. Why do I need a TVIN?
Due to increased number of identity theft victims and in an effort to protect the employees and students of TVCC we will be discontinuing the use of SSNs as the common identifier for all employees and students.

3. How soon will I need to begin using my TVIN?
Changing from the use of SSNs as the common identifier for all employees and students is a major task and cannot be completed at one time. The process of converting all forms, screens and computer applications from SSN to TVIN will take several months. To make the transition from SSN to TVIN more manageable we will be using a phased implementation over the course of the next 18 months. The complete transition from SSN to TVIN should be completed by January 2011.

4. How can I find my TVIN?
You can find your TVIN easily by going to this website. You will simply enter your SSN along with your month and year of birth. It is also printed on your school ID Card next to your picture.

5. When will I know to begin using my TVIN?
Over the course of the next year you will see forms and computer screens asking for your TVIN instead of your SSN. In some cases you will actually see screens that will allow you to either enter your TVIN or SSN.
