Freshman Orientation

Welcome to the High School Counselor Information web page!  TVCC views you as an important link to the students in our service area. Our counseling and admissions staff are available by phone anytime you have questions concerning your students. This website is designed to make your working relationship with TVCC as convenient as possible. It will be updated regularly and we welcome any ideas that you have concerning its usefulness.

General Information

Below are a few of the sites at TVCC that we believe will assist you in guiding your students to a successful academic experience at TVCC.

How does a high school graduate apply to TVCC?

  1.  Complete application form
  2.  Complete Texas residency form
  3.  Provide complete official copy of high school transcript with date of graduation
  4.  Provide TASP, THEA, ASSET, Accuplacer, or Compass scores to TVCC if not test-exempt or test-waived based on ACT, SAT, TAAS, or TAKS, unless enrolling for a test-waived occupational certificate program.
  • All beginning Freshman students are encouraged to meet with a college counselor prior to registration.  Each campus also has Freshman Orientation seminars.  Please encourage your students to attend the session on the campus where they plan to enroll.  These sessions cover important information and provide an opportunity for early registration.  They are designed to help make the transition from high school to the college environment as seamless as possible

Dual Credit/Concurrent Enrollment

Dual credit is a process of enrolling for college courses and using those classes as credit toward high school graduation, as well as attaining regular college credit (Example:  ENGL 1301 and ENGL 1302 as high school English credit).  TVCC will waive college tuition for 2 courses per semester.  See dual credit tuition chart for payment amounts due at the time of registration.

Concurrent enrollment is a process of enrolling for college courses at the same time you are in high school.  These classes are not being used toward high school graduation.  No tuition waiver is available for concurrent classes.  Student pays full tuition and fees. See tuition chart in catalog.

Students enrolling as either dual credit or concurrent are required to provide the following completed forms prior to registration:

  1. Application for admissions to TVCC
  2. Texas residency form
  3. Dual credit/concurrent enrollment form signed by a parent and completed by a high school counselor or principal
  4. Official copy of high school transcript if test-exempt or test-waived based on ACT, SAT, TAAS or TAKS, OR have official scores from TASP, THEA, ASSET, Accuplacer, or Compass.
