Expectations
The student is expected to come prepared and ready to actively
participate in all class activities. This means: reading the
assigned chapter pages before class, completing assigned
homework for the date indicated, and attending all class
sessions. Learning a second language can be a fun, rewarding
experience. However, it is a process that requires dedication,
motivation, commitment, and discipline. Time and practice are
essential. Students are encouraged to speak to native speakers,
watch Spanish TV or movies, and read Spanish magazines or
newspapers.

Course Requirement Overview
Attendance:
Your attendance will be factored into the final grade.
In order to be successful in Spanish 1411, the student must be
engaged and participate in class discussion and group work. You
can not learn a language if you do not speak and attend class.
I do not make the distinction between excused or unexcused
absences. Because of this, two absences will not affect your
grade. Three or more absences will however lower your final
grade by 5 points for each day missing. Students with excessive
absences will be strongly encouraged to drop the course since a
passing grade will be difficult to attain. I will regretfully
drop a student after 9 absences. If you attain perfect
attendance and your attendance remains punctual, 5“bonus” points
will be added to your final course grade at the end of the
semester. Punctuality is defined as being no more than five
minutes late at the beginning of class and remaining until the
class is officially dismissed.
Examinations:
You will take three exams. Each exam is multiple choice format
and objective based. Each exam includes 50 multiple-choice
items with each item being worth 2 points. Please bring a number
two pencil and Scantron answer sheet to all examinations.
Oral Presentation:
The title of the presentation will be, “Mis preferencias
personales”, which means your personal preferences. You may
read your presentation to the class and it should last at
least 1.5 minutes. You will need to turn in a typed
copy of your oral presentation. All written papers should
be typed in Times New Roman, 12 pt and double spaced. You
can use pages 92-99 in your book to help you get going but keep
it simple and use the vocabulary that you are learning. Remember
you are being graded on presentation, correct pronunciation,
sentence structure and fluency in speaking.
Vocabulary
Quizzes:
Each quiz will be taken from the end of chapter vocabulary,
“Vocabulario esencial”, including 35 words worth 2
points. The English word will be written and you will write the
meaning in Spanish. Spelling counts and that means accents. No
special answer sheet required.
Academic
Integrity:
By registering and taking this course, the student declares that
he/she will be the author of all work submitted for the course.
Allowing another individual to complete assignments, using an
online translator, or cheating on exams constitutes fraud and
academic dishonesty. Should such behavior come to the attention
of the instructor, the student will be dropped from the course
or receive a grade of “F.”
