Course
description:
This course will include a study
of the various aspects of personal money management. It will
include invaluable information for an individual to maximize
their income and investment potential. Topics include: setting
financial goals, consumer credit, tax planning, insurance,
investing in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, and retirement
planning.
Instructional methods:
This course
is offered as an integrated program of study utilizing a
textbook, and online resources. Each chapter in the textbook
contains learning objectives, summary sections, financial
planning problems, and online activities. As an independent
course, the student will be required to read the textbook to
ensure a complete understanding of the material presented.
Assignments will be made for each chapter (attached). These will
include problems at the conclusion of each chapter. The
assignments will be due on the date of the corresponding outside
of class assignment (test). The textbook provides countless web
sites to enhance the learning experience.
The instructor will be available
to discuss problem areas via the internet.
Method
of evaluation:
There will be five outside of
class assignments (tests) covering only the material assigned.
Each assignment will have the same value. They will be based on
the material covered in the textbook. The assignment will
consist of true and false questions, multiple choice questions,
and short discussion questions. Examinations will cover the
following material:

Your grade
will be determined by the following:
1. Listing your outside of class
assignments (tests) grades. (5 grades)
2. Obtaining an average of your
homework assignment grades. (1 grade)
3. Averaging these 6 grades to
determine your course grade.
Assignments:
Students will be required to
turn in the answers to the assigned question from each chapter
at the time of the corresponding examination. (Questions from
chapters 1-4 will be due when Exam # 1 is taken, etc.., etc..)
Grades:
The course
grade will be determined by using the following criteria;
A=90-100 B=80-89 C=70-79 D=60-69
F = less than 60

The textbook can be purchased
the various locations of the TVCC Bookstores. A CD and workbook
is available. Those will not be used in the class. It will be
your responsibility to read the material, answer the assigned
questions, and prepare for the examinations. Assignments will be
made for each chapter (attached). These assignments will be due
when the corresponding outside of class assignment is submitted.
These assignments will be handled in person or via the
internet.
