COURSE DESCRIPTION: A study of nutrition, health, safety and related activities, including skill development in management of issues, guidelines, and practices in nutrition, as well as community health, hygiene, safety and legal implications. Integration of these principles applied to a variety of settings.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE CLASS:
| The course includes information needed for parenting, early childhood education (teachers), child care facilitators, students seeking health careers, etc. | |
| The course grade is based on four study prompts submitted via email, 2 tests, a research paper, a project, and lab ( lab is the documentation of CPR and First Aid Certification). All parts of the class will be of equal value. | |
| The course will be primarily self-paced. It will meet 4 times during the semester. Below is a schedule of class meetings. Students can elect to attend day time meetings or evening meetings. (Students must attend class meetings. Make up sessions will not be possible as students will be presenting and exhibiting materials.) | |
| There is a mid-semester paper due the week after spring break (the week of the second class meeting). | |
| There is a semester project due at the last class meeting date. | |
| Students should be prepared to submit weekly work via the Internet. Therefore, students should have an active email address. These can be obtained from the college library if needed. | |
| Three tests will be given. The schedule will be announced at the first class meeting. | |
| There is a textbook entitled Health, Safety and Nutrition for the Young Child published by Delmar (Thompson Learning). We will be using the 5th edition. | |
| Students should not expect late work to be accepted. | |

All class meeting will be in the Ginger Murchison Learning Resources Center (library) in the classroom which is located inside the library.
