Ben Schonfarber joined the
coaching staff in the spring of 2010, and is
handling the duties of coaching the Cardinal's
defensive backs. He brings with him an
extensive background of coaching at both the
division I and high school levels. Schonfarber
began his coaching career at Northwestern State
University in Natchitoches, Louisiana where he was
an assistant with one of the top offenses in the
conference and nation. At NSU, he helped lead
the Demons to the 1998 Southland Conference
Championship, and a berth to the NCAA
Division I-AA National Championship playoffs.
In the playoffs, NSU fell one game short of
playing for the national title, losing in the
semi-finals to eventual champion UMASS.
After leaving Natchitoches, Coach Schonfarber left
the college ranks and spent three seasons coaching in north Louisiana
high schools eventually being named offensive coordinator at Loyola Prep
in Shreveport. After three successful seasons in Shreveport, he
joined the staff at Alcorn State University, in Alcorn, Mississippi,
where he coached the wide receivers. During the 2003 season, three
of Schonfarber's receivers were ranked in the top 10 in receiving in the
SWAC conference at season's end. For the past three seasons,
Schonfarber coached in the Texas high school ranks with stops at both
Marshall High School and Waskoml High School, where he had coached
defensive backs, linebackers and running backs.
Ben was born and raised in Shreveport, LA and
has two wonderful sons, Ben Schonfarber III and Zachary Schonfarber.
He received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University -
Shreveport (1998), and his Masters of Science in Sports Administration
from Northwestern State University (2004). |
