Sherard Poteete – Offensive Coordinator/QB’s                          

Sherard Poteete joined the Cardinal Football family in January of 2010 as Offensive Coordinator and  quarterbacks coach.  His leadership of the 2010 and 2011 offenses have been integral in the Cards run to the 2011 SWJCFC Regional Playoffs, the 2011 Citizens Bank Bowl, the 2010 SWJCFC Regional Playoffs and the 2010 SWJCFC Championship game.  

Under Poteete's guidance in 2011, quarterback Tucker Carter was named 1st Team All-Conference, the SWJCFC Offensive MVP and Honorable Mention NJCAA All-American.  Carter ranked 7th in the NJCAA in passing yards, 8th in total offense, 5th in passing TD's and was named the NJCAA National Player of the Week for his performance in the Cardinals victory ove Navarro.  The offense finished at or near the top of the conference in total offense, passing offense and rushing offense, as well as positioned 6 players on the All-SWJCFC 1st or 2nd teams.

In 2010 the offense was instrumental in the run to the championship.  The Cardinal offense finished 1st in the SWJCFC and 5th in the nation in total yards.  They also led the SWJCFC in rushing offense, finishing 6th in the NJCAA, and finished 2nd in the SWJCFC and 17th in the nation in passing offense.  The 2010 offense also boasted a 1st team NJCAA All-American, the SWJCFC MVP, and the conference's leading rusher, leading passer and 1st, 2nd and 4th leading receivers. 

Poteete comes to Athens from Louisiana College, where he coached for six seasons and held titles of offensive coordinator (2007-2009), passing game coordinator (2006), special teams coordinator (2006) and quarterbacks (2006-2009) coach.  Statisically, Poteete’s offenses at LC had been among the best in both the NCAA and ASC.  In 2009, the Wildcat’s offense finished top 3 in the ASC and top 30 in the NCAA in: scoring offense, total offense, passing offense, passing efficiency and turnover margin.  He had also earned the reputation as one of the school’s top recruiters during his tenure.

The former quarterback enjoyed a stellar career at Tulsa Union HS, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Southern Illinois University, and professionally in the Arena Football League.  An All-State selection in high school, Poteete signed with NEO and led the Golden Norsemen to the
1998 SWJCFC and Red River Bowl Championships en route to being named All-ConferenceAfter signing with Southern Illinois University, he was named the 1999 Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year and the 2000 All-Conference Team.   Poteete spent four seasons in professional football with both Shreveport and Columbus and still holds league records for passing, rushing and touchdowns. 

Sherard is married to the former Jamie Campbell and they are the parents of two sons Kannon (7) and Parker (3).
